Emilian Dascal began his music studies at the age of five in his hometown of Bucharest. In 1983, at the age of 23, he began his professional career as principal violist of the Senftenberg Symphony Orchestra in Germany. In 1987, he received his solo viola diploma at the Lucerne Conservatory under the tutelage of Professors Gunars Larsen and Rudolf Baumgartner. Shortly thereafter, he toured the Far East and Europe as member of the Lucerne Chamber Orchestra "Festival Strings Lucerne."
Mr. Dascal served as principal violist with a number of well-known European Orchestras, including the Helsinki Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki National Opera and the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he was a founding member of the renowned Celibidache String Trio and the European Strings Chamber Orchestra. Alongside his orchestral career, he performed as soloist with renowned international orchestras such as Helsinki Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki National Opera, Belgrade Philharmonic, Bucharest Radio Symphony Orchestra, Chichester Symphony Orchestra - U. K, Festival Strings Luzern Chamber Orchestra as well as numerous times with the St.Gallen Symphony Orchestra under the batons of Jorma Panula, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Camil Marinescu, Esa Pekka Salonen, Rudolf Baumgartner, Cristian Brancus, John Neschling, Jiri Kout, Leif Segerstam, David Stern. Mr. Dascal has given master classes in Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, Great Britain and the United States. He collaborated with the Munich Philharmonic and Bayerische Rundfunk Munich.
In 2009, he recorded the Elegy for Viola by Thomas Schmidt-Kowalski with the Naxos label and again, in 2010, the Concerto for Viola and Orchestra in F sharp minor by the same composer with the Querstand label.
In 2011, the prestigious Honorary Fellow award was bestowed upon him by the University of Chichester, England. Presently, Mr. Dascal serves as Professor at the Music School St. Gallen, Switzerland and Head of the Strings Department at the University of Chichester in England.
